What is i-pill ?
I-pill tablet is an Emergency Contraceptive pill to prevent unintended pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
When to use i-pill ?
To prevent pregnancy after having an unprotected sex, i-pill is to be taken within 12 hours and not later than 72 hours of unprotected sex. I-pill is useful in contraceptive failure, unprotected sex, forced sex and/or improper use of regular birth control method.
How does i-pill works ?
Pregnancy is established only after a fertilized egg attaches itself to the womb. Depending on the day of your menstrual cycle, i-pill can either stop an egg from being released from the ovary or if the egg is already released, it may prevent the sperm from fertilizing it. I pill is ineffective if pregnancy is already established. I-pill does not harm the fetus.
How effective is i-pill ?
I-pill's effectiveness is 95% when taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex, 85% within 25-48 hours and 58% within 49-72 hours. If periods are delayed by more than a week, please test for pregnancy.
Is i-pill safe to consume ?
I-pill has no long-term side effects and is safe. It is approved by scientific and regulatory authorities as a safe way to prevent pregnancy after contraception failure or unprotected sex.
Are there any side-effects from i-pill ?
There are no long-term or serious side effects. Nausea, vomiting and headache are some common side effects after taking i-pill. You might also experience lower abdominal pain or find breasts more tender than usual. All this should stop within a day or two. You could experience unexpected vaginal bleeding, but this is short - term and settles down by the next menstrual cycle.
How often can I use i-pill ?
I-pill is an emergency contraceptive pill. Repeated administration within a menstrual cycle is not advisable because of possibility of disturbance of cycle. Ensure continuous use of regular contraception like condoms, regular birth control pills. Do not replace your regular birth control with i-pill.
Is i-pill an abortion pill ?
No. i-pill contains hormones which delay ovulation or inhibits migration of sperm towards the egg thereby preventing fertilization & pregnancy. It is not effective on already fertilized egg. Abortion pills contain drugs that stop the development of pregnancy and also change the character of the uterine lining such that the fertilized egg gets detached, causing abortion.
Administration :
Take i-pill immediately, preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours of unprotected sex. To prevent vomiting, it is preferable to take i-pill with some food. If you vomit within 3 hours of taking, please take another dose immediately.
